In 2009, she opened her private practice, Decibels Audiology, which she and her husband Mark built to 3 locations, dozens of employees and hundreds of headaches before gloriously cashing out/selling the practice in 2019. Following her “retirement” from clinical practice, April now runs Decibels 180, a consulting group for private practice owners, and its offshoot, AudBoss (a Facebook group for private practice owners).
Following their practice sale, April and her family relocated to the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, settling in the tiny town of Craftsbury in a log cabin on a 40 acre farm, which they have no idea how to run. They have two adorable children and one very fluffy Portuguese Water Dog, often chronicling their ridiculous adventures in their blog Ears, Cheers and New Frontiers.
Mark is a proud Eagle Scout and started his first business when he was just 16 years old, building computer networks for local businesses. During his early college years, he would take on projects for custom database design and programming. Following college, Mark worked as a Senior Level Network and Systems Engineer with a Southwest Florida business consulting firm. In 2006 he opened his second business, an Information Technology Consulting Company, that he later sold in 2012 after growing it to a multi-million dollar enterprise.
Soon after exiting the IT business, his exceedingly talented wife, April, identified a need in her own growing Audiology business for consulting, automation and process improvements. Together they structured Decibels Audiology for growth that developed exponentially over the course of the next 7 years. Mark contributed to these business endeavors by identifying opportunities for improvement through assessment processes, applying strategic planning, managing financial and backend systems, analytical synthesis of business data, and implementation of purposeful technology initiatives. Mark firmly believes that great teams are what make success in any business environment and enjoys facilitating personal development among team members toward shared organizational goals and benefits.
Since completing the sale of their industry-leading private practice in 2019, Mark has kept busy in his new rural New England home. When he isn’t applying his computer brain to thinking about Decibels 180 clients and business, he enjoys learning all the skills necessary to thrive in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont!
